How does a small town girl get into the stock market?

My husband and I keep visiting the idea of trying the stock market. We are both educated people, just not in this area. What is the best, and most economical, way to begin? I don’t know if we should find a business in our area that handles this sort of thing, or if we should find something online. I don’t want to sink a lot of money into fees for our first go at this. We just want to try it out and see if it’s for us. Please help!

Does the focus on the stock market cause our society to ignore how the economy affects real people?

When you listen to any financial news, it’s almost always about how it affects the ups and downs of the stock market. Does this create a fundamental disconnect between Wall Street and the average person?

What type of probability distribution does the stock market follow?

I am trying to figure this one out…it’s not normal distribution since all values should gravitate around the mean..which is not the case in the stock market(and related markets). I tried to approximate as well the CDF of Levy distribution…and I might be doing something wrong – but I am getting infinity there…
One thing is clear though: the probability is continuous.

thanks…

How accurate are Stock market guru and their trading software in prediction of stock price?

I am very new to online stock trading and suffered many loses in intra day. There are many stock market Guru and their trading software who claim 90 to 100% accuracy in prediction of price movement. Because I am tired of so much loss on my trade, I am thinking of using their service if their claim is true or other wise I have to turn to long term investment. If any one used or experienced these services please guide and suggest me.

Do you ever get discouraged by the stock market?

I try to maintain a 50/50 stocks to cash portfolio. However, i get upset when the stock market goes up because I feel that I could have made thousands of dollars more by having a higher allocation of stocks to cash. But I also get discouraged when the stock market goes down because I am losing money and feel that I should have held more cash and waited to get in then. Does anyone ever feel like this?

How to capitalize on the stock market during a terrorist attack?

Ok. So I was watching Taking Pelham 1,2,3 and part of the plot during the movie was the criminal staging a terrorist attack to make money on the stock market. Now i researched some and found out that terrorist attacks do drop the market for whatever reason. So how does one know which stock to invest in that’s going to soar (i.e. in the movie it was gold that went up tremendously).
