Is the recent stock market climb due to Bush and his dilligent economic policies?

The stock market has been going up due to Bushs policies. Remember when Democrats say "Obamas only been in office for 5 weeks?"

Well according to their logic thats not enough time to do anything wrong, therefore whatever Bush did in his final days was right, and we are seeing the end to Clintons recession finally.

Its just too bad Obama is trying to take credit for it, fact.

How would you explain to someone that a recession or stock market crash is not the failure of capitalism?

How would you explain to someone that a recession or stock market crash is not the failure of capitalism? With the stock market crashing in the past couple of months, unemployment soaring, and the Big 3 automakers on the verge of bankruptcy I’ve heard more than one person comment that it’s all proof that capitalism is outdated or never worked very well. How would you explain to them that capitalism does work?

What happened in the stock market today?

Today, January 22, 2008 all the news channels were focusing on the stock market a huge risk of recession. They also said that the federal government reduced interest rates. I only saw bits and pieces of the news report. What exactly happened? What was the scare? What did the government do?

I have some very conservative investments, mostly mutual funds. What will happen to them in a deep recession?

I have some mutual funds which are made up of very conservative investments – nothing too risky. Over the past few decades this fund has done nothing but grow slowly. Sometimes it goes down a bit, sometimes it spikes a bit, but overall it shows a pattern of growth, which is great.

What will happen to these investments if we go into a bad recession?

Will they decrease in value a lot?

Should I try and head this off by changing my portfolio? Or just ride it out?

Thanks!

What is the stock market trying to tell Obama?

See, the stock market is ALWAYS a leading indicator of things to come. You should all know by now that it bounced from Mar 9th lows on the assumption that the worst was over and Obama putting trillions into economy would stave off another leg down in the recession. NOW, what is this market saying now that it is slowly going back down? Why would Obama throw more money at it? Why would he dare introduce more legislation that is bad for economy and business in general? What is Obama trying to accomplish? And does the market heading back down tell him that his agenda is working?

How often does a correction in the stock market turn into a recession?

I’m interested in "leveraged indexes" (ex., SSO) that imitate the general movement of the stock market with increased power. However, if the market plummets, I’m twice as in trouble as I’d normally be.

I know that predicting the market is a difficult if not impossible task, but are there any early "warning signs" to warn me of an upcoming recession?

Historically, how many times have corrections (10% drop in the market) turned into a true, full-blown recession (20% drop or more in the market)?

Thanks for your help!
Correction: By "recession" I meant a bear market. Sorry for the confusion of terms.

How low do you think the Dow will go/Put IRA $ back into index funds?

How low do you think it will go. I sort of think that it might drop down to 7,000 range but out of fear or it going back up in value I am thinking about putting my IRA money back into Index funds like I had before the recession. By the way I got out at around 13,500, yeah good on me.
