better way to invest money than CD or money market?

I’m a 35yo single male, I own my own home and I have about 000 in a money market paying 4.65 apy. Also i have two CD’s each for 00 5.35% apy for nine months. My mortage is 6.74% apr ( I owe k, purchased house at k two years ago). I also have about k in a retirement mutual fund which I have calculated has paid a disappointing 5 % over the last 7 yrs. My question is this. These investments (cd’s and money markets) are super safe because of FDIC. And I like a sure thing even though I’ve heard often that when your younger u should have more risk in your portfolio than when u r older. Are there investments that would pay slighty more and be slightly more risky but not too risky. Perhaps municipal bonds? I also like the liquidity of CD’s and money market accounts so I wouldn’t want to give up all that much liquidity.

How much money would you need invested in mutual funds to get a decent "monthly" return?

I’ve been trying to add some assets to my life. Is it possible for the average joe to earn an income off of mutual funds, or would I need to have multi hundreds of thousands invested?

I’m not trying to live off investments alone, but I’m curious what kind of fortune I would need to have invested to make a couple hundred dollars a month.

Thanks to those that offer help!

What is the accounting for investments in mutual funds?

Hi, I’m interested in IFRS accounting policies for investments in the units of mutual funds.
In my case, the mutual fund invests in some illiquid long-term assets like construction projects and property.
Any ideas would be highly appreciated!

How do investment banks (Goldman and Morgan Stanley) accept deposits?

According to today’s (Sept 22) NY Times, "Both banks already have limited retail deposit-taking businesses, which they plan to expand over time. Morgan Stanley had billion in retail deposits as of Aug. 31 and Goldman Sachs had billion in deposits. "

I thought that ony banks could accept deposits, not investment banks. (Obviously this will be different after they convert themselves to bank holding companies, as now planned.) Under current law, how are Goldman and Morgan Stanley able to accept deposits?

They do offer money market mutual funds, but these are uninsured investments, not "deposits".

Thanks.

How can one use their credit cards to invest without the investment qualifying as a cash advance?

Everybody knows using a credit card at the ATM or bank will qualify the transaction as a cash advance and cash advances carry a rather high rate. However today I heard a bit on the news;how to make money off of the credit card companies rather than them making it off of you. It featured some investment guru who talked about using available balances on credit cards for investments that have a higher rate of return than the credit card carries. I have a 0% until July 2007 with plenty to invest if I decided to do this, but how would I avoid the cash advance rate if it would be regarded as cash? Are there any investments that would list the transaction as a purchase? Please help, I am confused.

Is the stock market expected to drop significantly in the next six months?

My financial advisor advised me to move more of my investments into the bond market. He said that equities have been at all time highs, and the market is expected to correct itself sometimes between summer and this winter. However, I can’t find any articles on this expected correction. Anyone know more about this? Also, what are some good online news organization where I can read articles about the stock market?
