Index funds cannot go to zero ?

Index funds cannot go to zero ? Am I right ? e.g. take the S&P 500 ETF index for SPY.

There are 500 stocks in SPY. Should one stock declares bankruptcy or gets de-listed, it is removed from the index fund SPY and a new stock will be added.

So I think even in a bearish market, the price value of SPY or any index funds including Dow Jones, Hengseng, Nekki, etc will never have a price value of zero.

Should any stock(s) in anyone of these index funds goes belly up, the stock(s) just gets removed or de-listed from the index and a new stock will be added.

Am I right ? Or am I missing anything ?

Even if we have the worst case scenario similar or more devastating than the 1929 market crash, the price of any Index Funds cannot go
to zero value.

Please comment and give me your insight.

Thanks in advance

Max Out 401K or Index Funds?

I am currently maxing out my 401K. My employer matches up to 6%. I am wondering if it’s best to contribute only 6% and then buy a bunch of index funds. I’m mainly concerned over the idea that I can probably do better with index funds, but I lose out on compound interest, … but then again, it’s likely that I’ll be in a much higher tax bracket when I retire.

I really like "Index Funds Advisors" approach, but I don’t have the 100K minimum to open the account. Maybe I can mimic their investment approach through something like Scottrade?

Thank you

I purchased an index mutual fund, but I don't see it changing with the market like I do my 401K mutual funds.

Why is that? Do index funds only update once a day… perhaps when the market is already closed? Is this normal? All day today it was showing the previous trading day’s values… till tonight. I presume tomorrow it will show tonight’s value till the trading is done. Is this a correct assumption? What is the logic behind this… and why does this not apply to my 401K mutual funds?

When does a small cap or medium cap index fund equal large cap stock in terms of risk and reward?

I do understand large cap index funds on average make about 10% and large cap stocks makes about 15% on average and for the record realestate 10%.
