401k plan does not pay stock dividends on index funds?

I have a 401k at my company, and I have 3 stock index funds in which I participate. Over the last year, I have NOT received a single dividend or capital gain on any fund. I have never seen this happen before, I always received dividends on index funds I have bought in the past.

I called the 401k department and they were of no help. They told me the dividends are reinvested back into the fund itself to bring the cost of the fund down…..I do not think that sounds right though…nor do I think its right considering the same fund cost is exactly what yahoo finance says the fund cost is.

If anyone could shed some light on this I would really appreciate it
Let me add some more details. The fund is something called a comingled fund. It does not really have its own prospectus per say, but it does hold 100% of Vangaurds Total Stock Index.
When I look at my statement online, there has not been a single transaction in the last 6 months…when I last worked there. However, I would would still expect to get dividends reinvested but I got nothing. I have the same amount of shares as when I left. I know for a fact the Vangaurd fund paid dividends this part year…so you see my point?

I called the 401k department and they told the dividends get revinvested into the fund itself and I do not see anything. They said this is a "special" arrangement and no dividends are paid to the owners. Personally, I think someone is skimming the dividends, I just have no idea how I would ever find that out.

What are the steps required to become an investment banker?

I am a senior in high school and I want to be an investment banker. I plan on majoring in finance. I have researched how to be an investment banker but i would like to hear from people who are investment bankers or in that field. I would like to know the path they are taking. I’m wondering if I should go straight to grad school or graduate work in a firm then get my MBA? Questions like that I have. Thanks in advance for your help
Are there any books you suggest I read now for future investment bankers?

Is my IRA too conservatively invested in the federal money market fund?

My Vanguard IRA. I told them to move the money to where it was invested as conservatively as possible, and they suggested federal money market fund. My wife says that’s like stuffing it in a mattress, but I dunno. I don’t know much about money, but a conservative investment seems ok, I think. I hope someone out there more knowledgeable than myself will comment on this. Thanks for any help.
Thanks, Jacqyln, but I’m sort of looking for a short answer or opinion here. This writer you’re suggesting mixes finance and religion? Think I’ll pass on that.

Why is it bad for a mutual fund to have too many assets?

I keep reading on morningstar and other finance sites about how "such and such a mutual fund is getting too bloated with assets," and that this is especially a problem for funds that focus on small-cap stocks. And I see that Vanguard and many other companies have closed funds to new investors–even Vanguard’s Windsor II, which focuses on huge corporations, has restricted new investors. Let’s say a mutual fund purchases more that 50% of a company, why is that bad? Isn’t that what Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway does?

How to determine which mutual or index funds are best to invest in?

Hi,
I am new to this area of finance and have no experience or backround education in it. I wanted to know how to determine which funds are the best to invest in. I have read some material online (limited myselfto top performing funds) but still feel vulnerable since I don’t feel I have knowledge whatsoever to feel confident that a particular fund is what will be suitable for me. Are there any indicators which one should look while chooosing mutual funds?
