Stock market?

I am interested in getting an internship during this summer dealing with stock market in general. However, while going through numerous internship websites, as well as job search engines, I became more and more lost. None of the categories were as clear cut as to say "Brokerage Firm." Instead, I came across; Accounting & Finance, Finance, Investment, Financial Services, Investment banking, ect. WHAT?! I just want to get an internship where daily vitality of the market matters, and decision have to be made due to that. Those options are not detailed enough for me to say, “Yes, that’s were I would like to be.” With my upcoming AA in business management, I understand that I will not be a broker; however, I just want to be around that environment. I am interested in getting to taste that line of work, also better understand the market in real life, enough with the books! I live in NJ, so lets not refer to NY, Chicago, or Philly.

Am I stupid to invest in S&P 500 index funds now?

I feel like the S&P will shoot up in a year or two, and I’ll be glad that I bought some on the cheap. But I’m a real novice. Any free advice?

I am 21 and i ma looking to put my money back to work for me this year. I was told that my best bet is to invest in a index fund that track the S&P 500. However i am also being told that Exchange traded funds (EFT) are the way to go. I would like to know what is the main differences between the two. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Is a portfolio diversified if it consists of 1 index fund for stocks and 1 index fund for bonds?

Assume the two index funds are both large, broad funds. For example, the stocks fund might be indexed to the S&P 500 and the bond fund to the total bond market.

Thanks!

why do over 80% of mutual funds and stock brokers fail to do beat the S&P 500 Index?

Why do over 80 percent of mutual funds and stock brokers fail to do beat the S&P 500 Index? If they claim to be so smart, why can’t most of them beat the performance of this simple index?

Why not just invest in index funds?

Like the S&P 500, since it goes up and down with the market. Is the strategy of an "index and a few" (few refering to stocks) a good way to invest? How should a moderate-higher risk investor invest? Also, since most mutual funds underperform, why should you invest in some(or not)?

Money market mutual funds versus On-line savings account?

Hi there … Assuming one gets the same yield (pre-tax) from money market mutual funds & on-line savings accounts, is there any advantage of one over the other? For example, is the tax treatment of earnings different? Apart from feedback, if u can refer me to any article/publication, that would be gr8 too. Thanks, in advance, for your help!

Why won’t E*Trade let me buy index funds?

I signed up for the most basic brokerage account. I have about 0 in my investment account. It will not let me buy index funds such as the S&P 500 Index fund.
