Where do I start when I want to make Stock Market Investments? I am very good at early stock predictions?

I am verry good at making predictions in upcoming companys or products in the stock market, but I have no Idea where to start. Over the past 10 years I have missed out on millions of dollars, just because I never made the effort to learn the neccesary steps in order to enter into stock market operations.

Mutual funds transferred to an Index fund?

Hey, certainly not the right place to ask important financial questions but did need some quick clarification…

Listening to NPR today and one of the top performing investor’s overall recommendation was that basically, a basic index fund will, on average, out perform any Mutual fund. And, because Index funds have less fees associated with them, the investor really will make out far better in the long run. His advice was, of course, not to pull your money out of your investment account but to perhaps transfer it to an Index Fund.

Since this was really limited information, my question was really about how the mutual fund works. I’ve lost, say, 30k in the 3 different mutual funds I have now. Shouldn’t I just leave the money in (since it’s already a loss) and hope the value goes up in the next 10 years? Or, within the mutual fund are the stocks constantly trading so the stock my mutual fund holds now, will not be the same stock in it 10 years from now. If the later is the case, I can see why moving it to an index fund makes sense. But if investors usually keep the same core stocks, then isn’t transferring my money to an Index fund the same as pulling out of the market? Does this make sense?

I would like to know if I need to keep bank and mutual Fund statements?

I have kept bank and mutual fund statements for years. I would like to throw them away if not needed. I have some mutual funds I purchased 15 years ago with dividand invested. In order to calculate the cost basis of the fund when I sell the shares, I think I need to keep records of the cost of share when the dividend was used to purchase additional share. Many of the large Mutual Fund companies have started capturing the cost basis for shareholders in the last 10 years so they calculate the cost basis for you. Some of the smaller mutual funds companies do not have this type of service. Any advice is helpful.

For the bank statement, after I reconcile the checks, do I need to keep them for any reasons?

How to get statements from 10 years ago for a mutual fund?

Invesco Mutual Fund has a class action lawsuit whose claim form requires one to enter the number of shares held at year end from 1999-2003. I no longer have the paperwork on the fund as it was sold, and the paperwork kept for 7 years and then shredded. Does anyone have an idea how to go about finding that information from 10 years ago?

How do I get the cost basis for mutual fund sale?

I closed a mutual fund last year but all the 1099-B reports is the $ amount I received and the number of shares. Turbotax wants to know the cost basis to determine profit/loss. I had the acct over 10 years – how am I supposed to know this?
