Usually. Actively managed funds beat the S & P 500 index about 30% of the time. But there is no way of knowing, in advance, which will do better.

For the novice investor with little time to research and study stocks, Index Funds are the way to go.

For the more experienced investor, who thinks he/she can manage 10+ stocks at a time, inidividual stocks may be the way to go.

      Good luck!
